This sweet duo has spent their entire lives together, and we’re committed to keeping them that way. The shelter environment has been especially stressful for Ada, and she’s begun showing some behavioral challenges when around other dogs. We believe much of this stems from her inability to truly relax in a busy shelter setting.
Both Ada and Axel are loving, funny, and affectionate companions. Ada is the more reserved of the two and especially cherishes one-on-one time with her humans. She has done well with some dogs in the past but prefers calmer environments. Axel, on the other hand, is a happy, playful, and energetic boy who loves toys, running through the dog tunnel, and earning treats with his charm
Canyon has been at the shelter since the end of August. He has a higher energy level that is difficult to expel in the shelter environment…and he’s been here too long! He thoroughly enjoys his Doggy Day Out adventures – any chance to get away for the day. Canyon needs to be in a cat-free home and would probably do best with adults as his energy level tends to be a bit much for little kids.
Maxwell is a 9-year-old Blue Tick Coonhound who arrived at SafeHaven on September 11th, after being transferred from Marion County Animal Services. He came to us needing some big medical care—a dental and surgery to remove a large mass on the entire right side of his neck. The good news? His surgery went beautifully, and Maxwell is now healed and ready for the next chapter of his life. Since then, this sweet senior has been waiting patiently for a home to call his own. Sadly, Maxwell has been adopted twice and returned twice, and it’s taken a toll on his heart. Shelter life has been especially hard for him, and he’s just not meant to spend his golden years in a kennel. Maxwell is deeply loved by staff and volunteers and absolutely adores people. He would thrive in a home that offers plenty of outside time during the day, a warm bed inside at night, country living (as he does like to bark and express himself), and a family who understands senior dogs and their wonderful quirks.
He loves going on Doggy Day Out adventures, though car rides aren’t his favorite. We believe Maxwell is housebroken, and his manners reflect life experience and a gentle soul. If you can open your home—and your heart—to foster Maxwell, you could change his life forever.
Odin has a ton of confidence in the building but knows nothing or very little of the outside world. The few Doggy Day Out adventures he has been on he doesn’t seem to enjoy and could probably use a slower approach to new things than what the shelter has to offer, thus leading to foster care. Odin has a rough and rowdy play style with other dogs. He also likes to chase the birds in the yard at the shelter, so we would recommend a cat-free home, just to be safe.
