Spaying & Neutering Protects Your Pet’s Health
At SafeHaven Humane Society, we’re proud advocates for spaying and neutering pets—not only to help reduce pet overpopulation, but also to protect the health and well-being of your furry family members.
Spaying (for females) and neutering (for males) before sexual maturity—typically between 4 to 6 months of age, or before a female’s first heat cycle— offers the strongest protection against certain cancers, infections, and unwanted behaviors like roaming, marking, and aggression.
Pet Eligibility Requirements
To ensure a safe and successful procedure, the following criteria must be met:
- Age: Pets must be at least 2 months old
- Weight: Pets must weigh 2 pounds or more
- Health: Pets must appear healthy and pass a pre-surgical exam by our veterinarian on the day of surgery
Note: SafeHaven is currently unable to offer pre-surgical bloodwork. If you would like this done—especially for pets over the age of 7—it must be arranged with your primary care veterinarian ahead of time. Pre-surgical bloodwork is strongly recommended for senior animals.

Cats
Neuter: $100
Spay: $150
Dogs under 75lbs
Neuter: $150
Spay: $250
Dogs over 75lbs
Neuter: $200
Spay: $300
Additional services such as vaccinations, flea control, deworming, microchips, and nail trims can be added on at an additional charge on the morning of surgery.
Preparing for Your Spay/Neuter Appointment
Please review the following important information to help ensure a smooth and safe visit.
Drop-Off Instructions
- Arrival Time: Between 7:30 AM and 8:00 AM on the day of your pet’s surgery
- Cats: Must arrive in a secure carrier. If you do not have one, a cardboard carrier will be available for $10
- Dogs: Must be on a leash
Pick-Up Instructions
- Most pets will be ready to go home between 2:00 PM and 4:00 PM
- We will call you once your pet has safely woken up from anesthesia to schedule a specific pick-up time
- All pets must be picked up by 4:30 PM
Payment Info
- We accept: Cash, Visa, Discover, and Mastercard
- Checks are not accepted
Additional Information
- Please give at least 48 hours’ notice if you need to cancel or reschedule
- No-shows will be removed from our waitlist
